The goodhearted raftsmen of Koroška eagerly await you from as early as the crack of dawn!

Accompanied by a traditional raftsmen accordion, you can sing a traditional folk song with us, watch a skilled carpenter at work and start your unforgettable experience on the Drava river. Friendly rafting ladies will treat you to a customary sample of rye bread and salt, homebrewed brandy, and you can meet our rafting jokester Miha who will teach you of how rafting was done in the old days, and also share an interesting story of the raftsmen customs. Soon, the time will come for the raftsmen’s baptism after which the seasoned raftsmen accept a new raftsman into their ranks. The candidate must prove to be both mature and a rascal to become a true raftsman. The raft priest cleanses the initiate of all their sins and welcomes them into the raftsmen’s guild. A celebration with rafting ladies and musicians follows the baptism. Surrounded by nature while floating down the most beautiful part of the river, will certainly be an unforgettable experience.

The programme of the rafting trip:

• Guest are welcomed at the wharf, greeted by the raft captain (kormoniš), followed by a demonstration by the master carpenter
• Sampling of bread, salt and homebrewed brandy,
• Start of journey with a presentation of the raftsmen’s work and life,
• Raftsmen comedy act followed by music,
• Traditional raft lunch (goulash, corn polenta with pork cracklings, bread),
• Raftsmen’s baptism with the admission of new members into the raftsmen’s guild,
• Raftsmen’s coffee.

The river journey is very steady and appropriate for all ages.

We also organise trips for large groups, and individual guests. A prior reservation is required. The journey including the programme lasts for 2 hours.

Tradition: in the 19 years, we have been visited by more than 150,000 guests from Slovenia and abroad.

The rafting season starts in April and finishes at the end of October.

Experience a pleasant torch-lit evening trip.

It’s a special Carinthian dinner on the torch-lit raft. Skilled raftsmen will make the trip safe, pleasant and steady, while the guests bask in the idyllic surroundings on the river, enjoying culinary treats and pleasant music performed by local musicians. Through an old tale the guests can experience rafting of an era long-gone and to learn how raftsmen used to live. All this is accompanied with a typical regional feast, consisting of “flike” (pasta rags) with cabbage and pork tenderloin, “neklči” (pasta) with walnuts and turkey strips with cheeses from all three valleys and buckwheat porridge with roasted porcini and smoked meat.

Culinary experience programme:

Following carefully prepared rafting instructions, groups are formed and the head raftsperson is selected. Various entertaining tasks test the wit and skill of eager young raftsmen.

A raft trip and a fairy tale on the Drava river

After the test of skill and wit, the journey begins. Children learn about the history of the rafting industry through an interesting and educational story about life in the Drava valley. A pleasant trip on the raft gives children the opportunity to test their mettle on the oars and to hear the genuine regional dialect and some of the finest examples of the rafting jargon.

A greenhorn becomes a rafstman

After the children have passed all the raftsmen tests, it’s time to baptise the “greenhorns” and accept them into the raftsmen’s guild. But before that they have to prove once more they are mature and smart enough to be granted the honourable title of a raftsman.

The programme is suited for children aged 7-14 years. It’s an educational rafting experience with fun and games. The programme takes place on the raft wharf and on the raft itself. The programme lasts 60 minutes.
